Dead Island Developer’s Build Accidentally Released On Steam

Dead Island, that highly anticipated game with the awesome Memento-esque trailer, was released yesterday to an unfortunately buggy release. The most embarrassing of which is the inclusion of noclip mode, which is supposed to be removed from retail versions due to it being an obvious gamebreaker.

First impressions were that this was some extremely neglectful game testing. As it turns out, the problem is much more hilarious.

As people were experimenting with bugs yesterday, word got out that Techland had accidentally released the developer’s build of the game to Steam. Anyone who had the game pre-ordered from Steam had unknowingly managed to get their hands on it. The internet being the internet, hilarity ensued.

This has to be one of the funniest screw-ups in a long, long time. To their credit, Techland are working hard on fixing the situation, and some gamers are already reporting that the issues have been fixed.

While you might not get to have a go at the developer’s build yourself, we still have YouTube to experience the hilarity ourselves.

Dead Island currently has a reviewer score of 81 on Metacritic, but only a user score of 4.9 thanks to things like this.

At least we’ve all learnt one thing: if there ever is a zombie apocalypse, press Y to escape.
