NBA 2K11 Gameplay Footage

Ronnie over at 2K studios has been kind enough to release some footage of NBA 2K11 in action.

My own personal impressions?

The game definitely looks more fluid. There might be a good learning curve even for 2K experts. This new fluidity is going to change how you play in NBA 2K11. The previous approach was kind of static and those exploits and go-to moves you could use might not work any more. All the animations appear smoother and more accurate. Though I have still spotted the occasional blip or awkward transition between dribble and pass/shot.

The presentation has definitely been hyped up. 2K brought in a TNT producer to make the whole game appear more like a television broadcast such as The NBA on TNT. I would worry about them concentrating all on style and forgetting substance, but I doubt Mike Wang would stand for that. So I’m allowed to be once again incredibly impressed with Kevin Harlan and Clark Kellogg’s commentary. Looks like they’ve also refined the graphics and tinkered with the gear and animations. Some of the gear looks more real, the player’s look slightly more lifelike and mirroring their real life counterparts. And Denver’s jersey has got the treatment it’s needed for years! Don’t know what’s up with the neck, but at least no more chunky yellow straps around the shoulders.

The one thing we can all agree is true is that Ronnie needs some serious practice!

What do you think? Ultimately, for me, this is all just another teaser. No one’s going to get to properly judge this game on its gameplay until we get our hands on it come October. But it doesn’t look like 2K is standing still. And that’s great to see.
